R&D2023 – 2025

VI.IA and SCEA

ADN.tech

R&D products for road infrastructure. VI.IA applies computer vision to highway analysis and SCEA automates electronic toll collection.

The story behind the project

SCEA, an Automated Electronic Toll Collection System, was designed for free flow, tolling without barriers: cameras read the plate, artificial intelligence identifies the vehicle type, number of axles and lane, and the charge is made digitally. With no toll plazas and no slowing down, the model shortens queues, cuts concessionaires’ deployment and operating costs, helps identify stolen vehicles and makes it possible to charge by distance traveled.

The regulatory change that opened the way for free flow in Brazil led CCR to invite ADN.tech to a proof of concept on the highway between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, near Ubatuba, where the country’s first free flow operated. With EcoRodovias, the team worked on a computer-vision vehicle profiler to recognize official vehicles, which must not be charged, even when their plates change.

VI.IA grew out of SCEA. Building on the toll experience, the platform began reading and interpreting road environments and targeting other sectors, such as industry, ports, airports and gas stations. The toll market alone has about 440 plazas and 24 concessionaires in Brazil, with R$ 12.1 billion in annual revenue.

As ADN.tech’s innovation coordinator, I handled the product portfolio, MVPs and market tests, pitches and fundraising, including an R$ 2 million proposal written in 2 days.
