Smart Power Hub

Living Lab at Parque Tecnológico da Bahia

Studies and modeling of smart energy management systems. The project combines AI, the internet of things and the virtual power plant (VPP) concept to reduce the impact of curtailment, water constraints and grid limits in Brazil.

The story behind the project

Smart Power Hub was born at the Living Lab of Parque Tecnológico da Bahia to study how artificial intelligence can help run an increasingly renewable power system. The focus is predictive modeling and operational optimization, combining AI, the internet of things and the virtual power plant (VPP) concept.

The work tackles three bottlenecks in Brazil’s power sector: curtailment, when renewable generation has to be cut, water constraints and grid infrastructure limits. To do so, the team validates predictive models, studies the integration of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and drafts regulatory proposals for the energy transition.

The project brings together partners such as ADN.tech, Ledax Energia, Bravo Motor Company and AEPTECBA, and it was among the projects I presented to the MCTI delegation during its visit to the Living Lab in 2025.
